JOHNNY CASH BAND CAPS SEASON FINALE AT

EL CAJON CONCERTS ON THE GREEN

By Miriam Raftery

Put on your dancing shoes!  Each Friday night through September 7th, the City
of El Cajon is sponsoring free Concerts on the Green.  For the last month of
summer, featured rock & roll, country, big band, and zydeco performances.

The season finale will be a concert by Cash’d Out, the premier  Johnny Cash
tribute band—and the only Cash imitator endorsed by the official Johnny Cash
website.    Close your eyes and you’ll swear the Man in Black has been
resurrected and is singing live onstage!  Recent gigs have included the Hard
Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, House of Blues in L.A. and the opening of the Johnny
Cash exhibit at the Fender Museum of Music & the Arts. Listen to Cash’d Out
songs here:

Other upcoming artists include the Farmers, formed by surviving members of
the Beat Farmers, a homegrown San Diego country-blues-rock band that drew
international fame until singer/drummer/guitarist Dick Montana died onstage of a
heart attack in 1995.  Now the Farmers are receiving recognition in their own
right, earning a Lifetime Achievement honor from the San Diego Music Awards in
2005 and releasing the top selling CD (Loaded) at the
milesofmusic.com website.

Theo & the Zydeco Patrol cooks up a fiery blend of Cajun and Zydeco dance
music that has its roots in Louisiana.  After Hurricane Katrina, Zydeco Patrol
members helped organize a relief trip to bring aid to survivors in New Orleans.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of concerts on the Green, which provide
free entertainment as well an economic boost to the community.  Last year, more
than 11,000 people attended the live concerts, raising over $4,000 through raffle
sale tickets to benefit downtown El Cajon.  The influx of music fans also helped
businesses in the city’s heart.

Concerts are held from 6-8 p.m. Fridays at the Prescott Promenade on Main
Street, one block east of Magnolia.

On Friday, September 7th, FM 94.9 radio is sponsoring a pre-concert Happy
Hour party from 4 -6 p.m. at Mangia Bene’s Italian restaurant, right next to the
concert site.
