Support Debra Bowen's
Efforts for Secure
Voting Machines
By DFALA Organizer Anne Smith
Debra Bowen has done the heavy lifting by testing
and then decertifying insecure voting machines.
Now It's Our Turn.
You can see the results of testing and decertification
on her web site at
www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vsr.htm"
All across California, Secretary of State Bowen is
under heavy attack from Registrars of Voters,
venders and the media.
Registrars are crying that it's difficult to meet the high
standards created by the Secretary of State.
Venders are whimpering that the testing is unfair and
they can't pass the test.
The media, they just report what the Registrars tell
them.
As California adults we need to step forward and
dry their tears.
Let Deborah Seiler know that she can learn how to
run a secure election without Diebold TSx election
computers. Let Diebold know that if they can not
produce secure voting machines, there's ATMs.
And the media?
There may not be any help there.

BOWEN?

HERE ARE SOME ARGUMENTS USED
AGAINST DEBRA BOWEN
AND COUNTER ARGUMENTS YOU MAY
WISH TO USE IN A LETTER TO THE EDITOR
ROV: The conditions of the testing are unfair because
they were in laboratory-type settings without real-world
security procedures and poll workers present on election
day.
Answer: Voting machines are currently sent home weeks
before an election with poll workers.
While 9,999 apples are excellent, one bad apple among
the 10,000 workers could upset the whole election.
No background check is carried out on poll workers,
their family or friends. What kind of security is that?
Also, malicious software can be installed by workers
within the system who have access to these machines.
Sequoia: The security of electronic voting systems has
never been successfully breached during an election.
Answer: How can Sequoia know?
It has been proven that malicious software can be
entered into an electronic voting machine without being
detected at the end of the vote tally.
ROV: Six months is not enough time to find alternative
means of voting.
Answer 1: Registrars and Supervisors have known for
months of Bowen's security testing. They have had
months to come up with a contingency plan.
Why are ROVs caught unawares?
Answer 2: Until 2004 we have voted without using
Dibold TSxs, don't any ROVs remember the good old
days?
What did they do before 2004??
ROV: It will take longer to get the results of elections.
Answer 1: So What?? As Kim Alexander of California
Voter Foundation said, Voters for the most part are
more than happy to wait a few hours or days to ensure
accurate elections.
Answer 2: The great majority of citizens go to bed well
before the results are in.
They can wait, why can't the ROVs and media?
Thank you for all your efforts towards secure, accurate
elections. We are experiencing some mighty successes at
this time and all of your actions are an intregral part of
these dramatic events.
Congratulations!
Now let's keep making those phone calls, writng those
letters and all those other activities that have brought us
so far against so many counter forces.
Sincerely,
--The Team at Secure Accurate Elections
CA Sec of State Debra Bowen
